PART 3 THE DRUM AND BASS MASSIVE ATTAXX (ARTISTSERVER/SOUNDCLICK/CLOUD)

THE DRUM AND BASS MASSIVE ATTAXX (ARTISTSERVER/SOUNDCLICK/CLOUD) PART 3

"Your friendship is a fog, it disappears when the wind redirects"
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE 96

"I actually know someone who fainted to this track when it dropped at a rave."
A youtubber describing one of his fellow ravers response to the DnB track: SPLASH - BABYLON

We have already identified how the DnB scene mainly through Andy C's funny bone-hitting smash Bodyrock brought forth the sellout sound the scene needed to keep itself head above water in PART 1

PART 2 introduced us to the fans-become artists who dared to channel the creativity absorbed from their heroes from the scene and upload their own interpretation of existential Drum and Bass. Names such as these if you are not familiar:

This section finally concludes THE DRUM AND BASS MASSIVE ATTACKS.
We will deal with the years from 2007-2103, and see how web 2.0 and the social network scene impacted on the already booming do-it-yourself music upload culture in the DnB scene.

Totality

[2007-2013]

 2007  PROTRACTION
[By this time the novelty of music upload had wore off, and the platforms were realising that it was time to get serious or is that paid with more relevant adverts.  How would the DnB massive respond?]

ARTIST: BLACK REIGN RECORDINGS
TRACK: SPIRAL PATH
PLATFORM: ARTISTSERVER/SOUNDCLOUD

http://soundcloud.com/blackreignltd
MY COMMENTS: Treads carefully on Origin Unknown territory. Will take you on a journey back, and packed with loads of reverse snares and cymbals.

ARTIST: KYLO
TRACK: PSYCO CYCLE
PLATFORM: ARTISTSERVER
LINK: http://www.artistserver.com/artist/song.cfm/a/7613/tid/18275
MY COMMENTS: Doesn't really have the harsh metallic amen break roll as most of those on this list, but I thought I would add this because when I first listened to Kylo way back when, his stuff struck me as someone with the spirit of knowing what bits of songs and tracks they like but at the same time not letting it overtake their identity and ideal for how they want to sound. He defined independent artist for me around that 2006/7 period when I used to come on AS for some kicks. Be warned this isn't really Jungle or DnB, more beats, and breaks with the DnB spirit of whack, slap, cut up, mix, kill it.

 2008  VERY MERCENARY
[social media had all but taken over the independent music online world, and it was left to each artist to create their own network, entourage or whatever for themselves]

ARTIST: MR COCKTAIL_1
TRACK: CREDIT CRUNCH ON THIS
PLATFORM: ARTISTSERVER
MY COMMENTS: Just look at the year and timing.  Just look at the song logo. Just listen to the intro sample. Just listen hear the scattergun kick and snares. Just take in the humor. Just indulge in how existential sample based, hip-hop influenced DnB can be on social issues Art of Noise style.

ARTIST: ZARBSONG
TRACK: FX CREATION
PLATFORM: ARTISTSERVER / PERSONAL WEBSITE
MY COMMENTS:  Triplets timing on the drum machine everywhere.  A massive disaster. True drum and bass.  Think something of Amon Tobin's the Mission meets One Small Step and Moving Fusion.  Utimately the bassline acts as an undercurrent, and  doesn’t come in the foreground as its more about feeling the beats.

Fx Creation creates an atmosphere around the harsh beats. This is like Public Enemy's Bombsquad in Fear of A Black Planet mode on drum and bass.

 2009  TRUCE

2012  SURVIVAL
[If Soundclouds creative commons and other features allowed a lot of claiming remixes of tunes, then authenticity and originality at large would be at risk. However this wasn't the case 1Undread of whom it marks 11 years since I first heard their stuff.  And their original idea lives on aggressively ]
